Besides the regular cruise, you can also book a Dinner cruise which is a 1.5 hours ride along Narmada. This cruise includes foot-tapping music played by a professional DJ and an unlimited vegetarian buffet. You can even host parties on this cruise by booking it in advance. Most of you would have heard of the Ganga Aarti that is performed in Varanasi or Rishikesh. The synchronized chanting and moves with the lamps to honor Ganga Ma has always attracted visitors from far and near. Now you can witness one for Narmada Ma at the Narmada Ghats, opposite the Statue of Unity. What is more – you can book to be the host (Yajman) of Maha Aarti and get a seat behind the key priest. The Aarti and the blessings will be chanted for you and you can receive the Prasad at the end of the prayers.

The best time to visit these is in monsoons when the waterfalls are full and the surroundings green. The area around the falls has been developed as an Adventure park and one can choose to do rappeling, zip lines or free jumps here. You can either get here using your own car or book one of the many tourist buses from SOU to Zarwani park.

Head to Khalwani for river rafting

A great way to enjoy the waters of Narmada river is by signing up for river rafting in Khalwani. The activity is along a 5 km stretch that is filled with rapids and whirlpools. Despite the river being seasonal, the activity is available almost all through the year as it depends on the water released from the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

When you are at Khalwani, you can even opt for other adventure activities like Burma bridge, rock climbing and rappelling. Khalwani eco-tourism sites also, offer tent facilities if you are keen on camping out.

Rent a cycle – single or tandem

One great way to explore the area around Statue of Unity and Narmada river is by renting a bicycle. You can choose from single rides on regular cycles to electric bikes and even tandem cycling. These cycles are available at a central location near the statue. They can be booked in slots of 2 hours each. The booking has to be done on the SOU website itself.

  • Timings to rent a cycle – 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The booking has to be done for a 2 hour slot.

  2. I am embarrassed to say I did not know about the Statue of Unity or that it is the tallest statue in the world! However, I learned a lot reading your article. I especially love all of the natural attractions in the surrounding area, from the Valley of the Flowers to the Zoological Park to the Butterfly Garden. I always try to incorporate some kind of nature or botanical garden into my adventures to balance out historical and man-made attractions, so this is my kinda place!

  5. I don’t know if I should put my hand up and confess that I had not previously heard of the Statue of Unity, which is an omission on my part given it’s title of tallest statue in the world.

Sounds like it’s actually a great place to visit, not just for the statue itself but also for natural beauty and wildlife, as these are things I often travel for. I would love to also see the valley of flowers, and butterfly world.

  10. Hey There!

Great Insights. Thanks for all the information.

I tried multiple forums and did not get an answer for this. I am hoping you can help me with this.

I am planning to do the SOU viewing gallery, museum, valley of flowers, laser show and glow garden on day 1. If I plan to do Jungle Safari on Day 2. Do I need to take additional entry ticket along with Jungle safari ticket? and how do I reach Jungle safari. Can I use the bus service which comes with SOU entry ticket (considering I did not buy the entry ticket but just the Safari ticket)

Also if you can shed some lights on how to reach cactus garden will be helpful

    Thanks

    Reply
    • Hi there,
All the attractions have their own tickets. So, you will have to buy each of these separately on the website – which includes a separate ticket for the Jungle Safari. The Jungle safari entrance is on the main road, just a few meters from the Valley of Flowers. As far as I know, you will be allowed to use the bus if you have any of the SOU attractions ticket (even the safari ticket). The bus is a hop-on-hop-off facility that runs throughout the SOU park and that can be boarded at any of the entrances of the attractions. You can use this bus to get to the cactus garden.

Hope this helps! Have a good trip.
