Ahmedabad, known as the Manchester of India, is not just a business center but a very attractive tourist spot for most. From heritage spots to the Vintage car museums, Ahmedabad offers something from everyone. A few key attractions here are the Akshardham temple, Kankaria lake, Sabarmati Ashram and Adalaj step well. And it is not just sightseeing, but Ahmedabad is a great place for shopaholics and foodies. Given the multitude of things to do, for a tourist, it becomes important to pick the right Ahmedabad tourist hotel – somewhere central and somewhere convenient. Ahmedabad tourism hotels span a complete range – from budget hotels to mid priced ones and the high end luxury hotels. Most of the hotels are equipped with good facilities to enhance the comfort of the guests. Hotel bookings in Ahmedabad are quite easy as most of these hotels are listed on the popular travel and search websites and offers some good deals as well. Keeping the tourists in mind, here are my 5 locations that I would recommend to the tourists.
1) Ellisbridge

This area is dotted by a 120-year-old heritage bridge – a landmark of Ahmedabad, popularly featured in movies like Kai Po Che. It connects the two banks of the Sabarmati river and is a well-developed area, with plenty of educational institute, recreational centers and good Ahmedabad tourist hotels, spanning every possible budget. Five-star properties like the Four-point Sheraton hotel as well as mid-range budget hotels like Hotel Atithi are located in this region.
The area has a lot of good restaurants, shopping destinations and a few tourist attractions. Being a central area, the same is very well connected through public transport to all the other tourist attractions in the city. Transport is easily available and the distances to the key tourist areas are not much.
A newer area of Ahmedabad, this is another central and well connected location to stay as a tourist. Though residential, the area has enough entertainment options to engage a tourist. Sardar Patel sports club, Gujarat tribal museum and Usmanpura Garden are some must-visit places in this area. Based on your budgets, there are plenty of good Ahmedabad tourist hotels to pick from here.
3) Ashram Road

This is the road where the famed Sabarmati Ashram is located. Located on the banks of the river Sabarmati, this Ashram was the place where the famous Dandi march was started by Gandhiji. The Ashram has been converted into a museum with photographs, letters and other artifacts from the life of Gandhiji.
Staying in the Ahmedabad hotels of this area, will give you an access to attractions like Calico museum of textiles, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel museum , Sanskar Kendra as well as shopping malls like AlphaOne mall, all within 5- 7kms radius of the Ashram. For the movie lovers, the CityGold multiplex is also, located closeby.
4) Maninagar

The biggest lake in Ahmedabad – Kankaria lake is the main landmark of this locality. A destination by itself, the Kankaria lake has been developed by the Gujarat authorities as a tourist destination with adventure rides, games, zoo, promenade and more. The place is buzzing with activities for all age groups and offers plenty of options to eat and enjoy yourself. A recommended ride here is the balloon ride
The area has plenty of offer in terms of eating joints, shopping destinations and entertainment. The Sindhi Bazaar is a definite must for all the shopaholics. Perfect place to look for the Ahmedabad hotels.
5) Lal Darwaza

This is one of the older parts of Ahmedabad and is a key business area as well. For the tourists, it offers Ahmed Shah’s Mosque, Rani Rupmati’s Mosque, Bhadra Fort, Victoria Garden and Bhadrakali Temple within its fold. There are plenty of good Ahmedabad tourism hotels like the Le Meridien and Holiday Inn here for a good, comfortable and luxurious stay.
Ahmedabad as a city, is extremely fun and friendly for the tourists. The city is awake quite late into the night and the transport system in the city very well done. The Gujarati food is sumptuous and one must definitely try out the local cuisine here. There is no dearth of what you can do in the city and hence, your location becomes important. So, go ahead and do your bookings at Ahmedabad hotels at one of these locations to enjoy this charming city.
