Hyderabad – the erstwhile capital of the Nizams has grown beyond its historical boundaries. What used to be a major heritage and cultural hub has now also, become a city of business, sports and learning. The booming IT industry, the fierce battleground of badminton and the fortress of universities and colleges beckon tons of people to the city every day. The explosive growth of the city visitors has also, led to an increase in the number of Hyderabad Hotels. Places of stay in Hyderabad have sprung up in every nook and corner. With such a plethora of choice and huge inter-city travel distances, it is vital to pick the right place that suits your purpose of visit to the city.

Tourism still remains prevalent in Hyderabad despite the other industries. Naturally so, given the amazing things to do in Hyderabad. From the gorgeous Golconda fort to the vibrant markets of Charminar and the adrenaline rush at the Ramoji Rao studios to the fiery fiesta of the Hyderabadi meals – there is plenty to delight a tourist in Hyderabad. Given that these Hyderabad attractions are spread across the city, it is important to pick the right location for your hotel in Hyderabad. One that offers you convenience in terms of commute, proximity and budget options.

The Hyderabad attractions can be included into three major clusters – the first being Golconda Fort and the Qutub Shahi Tombs, the 2nd being Charminar, Salarjung Museum and Chowmahalla Palace and the third being Hussain Sagar Dam, Snow World. Science museum and Birla Temple. Of course, there are other Hyderabad attractions like Ramoji Rao city on the outskirts and Iskcon temple within the city. However, these would anyway need a separate ride – no matter where you stay in Hyderabad.

Banjara Hills – my personal favorite stay in Hyderabad

This used to be the hunting grounds of the Nizams. Two decades back, I recall Banjara Hills as an upcoming and posh area of Hyderabad. Today it is a hustling and bustling hub with enough commercial activity and quiet areas for hotels. I chose this area personally for my visit here as a traveler owing to it being quite central to the key attractions of Hyderabad. It is almost equidistant from the famous Golconda Fort and the Charminar. The area has plenty of hotels and homestays that cater to all possible budgets. It is also, a pick-up point for buses headed to the Ramoji Film City.

Jubilee Hills

A tad bit closer to the Qutub Shahi tombs and Golconda fort is a recent urban development called Jubilee Hills. It is a little quieter compared to its commercial neighbor Banjara Hills. Owing to its proximity to the Hi-tech city, Jubilee Hills has a plethora of hotels and holiday homes for you to choose from. Public conveyance is easily available and you would need the same, especially if you are going over to the old Hyderabad points of interest – like the Salarjung Museum. These tourist spots are at least 12 km away from this locality.

Hyderabad Stay in Kachiguda

Chowmahalla Palace - one of the key attractions near Charminar

The old station area of Hyderabad has quite a few budget hotels within its fold. The area has a key bus terminus for not just intercity transport but also, outstation. You can visit all the key museums of Hyderabad, the Charminar and the Hussain Sagar Dam while staying here. These are within a radius of 6 km from Kachiguda. Golconda Fort and the Tombs are at the opposite end of the city and you might have to take a day trip to visit them. Though there are plenty of malls, cinemas and food stalls around the place, you might find it a little congested compared to Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills.

Abids & Nampally

My last suggestion would be the Abids and Nampally area. This has historically been a very commercial area and has quite a few Hyderabad hotels. It is also, hosts a Metro station and is almost like a nerve center for most buses. The Charminar area is just a Tuk-Tuk ride away though the Golconda fort would entail a day-trip from here. This area is also, famous for local cuisine outlets, which are a must especially during the Ramazan season. That is when you get the most delightful mouth-watering treats.

Well, that’s it for now. Hopefully, when you plan your next tourist trip to Hyderabad, you will know where to book your stay. It might also, be a good idea to pick these stays even if you are not in as a tourist. After all, no matter what your business is, there is always some time you can make for some sightseeing 😉 So go on- pin this up.
