Meet the Visionary: Pravin Nahata at Aranyavas Nature Retreat, Jaipur

Pravin Nahata - the founder and owner of Aranyavas Nature Retreat in Jaipur
Pravin Nahata – the founder and owner of Aranyavas Nature Retreat in Jaipur

The true heart of Aranyavas lies with Pravin Nahata. He and his family are the founders and the wonderful hosts who established this permaculture farm and retreat. When I spoke with him, I realized his vision began as a personal quest for a temporary escape from the city, but it soon evolved into a conscious lifestyle. Aranyavas is a commitment to living sustainably, growing their own food, consuming only what is necessary, and giving back to the environment.

Pravin ji and his family don’t just run a retreat; they live its core values every single day, which makes the whole experience profoundly authentic and welcoming. They invite you not just as a guest, but as a temporary part of their journey towards self-sufficiency and mindful living.

A businessman from Kolkata, Pravin ji believes in the power of local. Besides employing them, he has collaborated with many of them to curate experiences that make this Jaipur farm stay memorable.

And with that introduction, let me now share 12 reasons why I recommend adding this Jaipur nature retreat to your Rajasthan itinerary.

Reasons to consider Aranyavas Nature Retreat for a stay in Jaipur

1. You actually experience Permaculture and organic farming.

Iโ€™ve read about organic farming, but here, I got to live it. The entire property is a working permaculture farm. I loved getting my hands dirty, literally. From learning how they conserve water using ancient techniques to understanding the natural cycles of growth, I was suddenly rethinking my entire food chain.

Even for those who do not want to learn about farming, wandering through the fragrant orchards and the picturesque fields is quite refreshing. It was fun to just walk through and spot the baby fruits, which of course, almost always had some chirping birds around.

2. It is just one hour from Jaipur city

Amer fort - the old capital of Jaipur
Amer fort – the old capital of Jaipur

Aranyavas Nature Retreat is located in Manpura Macheri, which is just one hour from Jaipur city. Located on the other side of Aravalis, you can visit Amer town in 45 minutes. The distance isnโ€™t much and is perfect for you to consider this stay as a part of your Jaipur itinerary. You can explore the city for the first day or so, come over to the nature stay, enjoy the calm and continue the fort part of your Jaipur trip from here.

This adds a different dimension to the usual sightseeing tour of Jaipur – giving you a little breather and time to absorb all that you are going to see.

3. You are treated to an authentic ‘Farm-to-Table’ Dining at this nature resort in Jaipur

The meals were a simple affair, yet very refreshing. Every dish I ate was prepared with fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs plucked straight from the farm hours before. I savored the authentic, slow-cooked vegetarian cuisine with flavours that were clean, vibrant, and incredibly nourishing.

If you so desire, you can even sign up for a wood-fired pizza night. Not only do you get to make your own pizza from scratch but bake it to perfection in a wood-fire oven – while you enjoy a bonfire and a glass of fresh juice.

4. Be ready to unplug and embrace the Digital Detox at this Jaipur farm stay

The post-monsoon greens greeted me as I arrived at this nature stay in Jaipur. I could feel the city’s hum melt away. Aranyavas in the Aravallis is just perfect for an offsite workspace. While connectivity is available if needed, the atmosphere practically compels you to put your phone down and look up. It in its passive manner, forces a digital detox.

You wake up to the birdsongs, learn to cherish early morning walks, enjoy the misty mountain views from the property and in general, become aware of the tiniest form of beauty in this natural environment. I found pleasure in the smallest of things – starting with the friendly moos of the cows who left for grazing in the morning to the eclectic colors of the buzzing dragonflies around the hedges.

5. You can learn how to make your own soap at one of the immersive workshops at this farm stay in Jaipur

This is where the retreat shines. I got to participate in workshops like aloe vera soap making and paper mache. I found so much joy and satisfaction in creating something with my own hands, using natural ingredients sourced meters away. Itโ€™s a wonderful way to pick up a new skill and take home a meaningful souvenir.

Pravin ji even took me to a nearby papier-mache factory where I saw this form of art taken to a commercial level. From stunning lamp shades to curios, it was fascinating to see how sustainable this form of art is and how it has found appreciation and recognition in India and internationally.

6. You get an opportunity to see an offbeat side of Jaipur

Aranyavas offers off-the-circuit heritage walks that allow you to see a different side of Jaipur. During my stay, I discovered the gems of Amer town on a guided walk arranged by Aranyavas – that took me away from the Amer fort and focused on the original town that predated the fort. From havelis to temples and local food, this heritage walk covered it all.

I also, landed in Samode, a small town that is just 12 km from Aranyavas farm stay near Jaipur. The town was a small jagir awarded to a relative of the royal family of Jaipur who built his own palace here. Now a heritage hotel, the erstwhile palace is modeled quite like the Jaipur city palace. I felt as I were walking through the Chandra Mahal that I saw in this special tour of the City Palace of Jaipur. Having seen both, I can definitely recommend that you include Samod Palace as an alternative to the crowded and more expensive City Palace of Jaipur.

The Samod walk also, takes you past the old settlement, which includes the ruins of the old village and havelis. You also, get to enjoy a bangle-making workshop in the village.

Besides these two tours, Aranyavas also, offers a “Tour called Temple Run” that takes you through some old village temples that have legends of their own. Definitely something that you do not get on a regular tour of Jaipur.

7. Nature-based adventure awaits you at Aranyavas retreat

While the focus is on relaxation, the location also offers gentle adventure. You can just hop on to the cycles and explore around the farm or embark on treks into the Aravalli foothills. Trust me on a misty morning, this can be quite refreshing.

8. Your break can be quite fulfilling- especially since you can bring your pet with you.

Aranyavas is a pet-friendly farm with enough space to let your furries loose and have fun with them. Animal lovers will also, enjoy interacting with the retreatโ€™s cows and other farm inhabitants. For kids, it can be fun feeding the cows and playing with the calves.

9. Enjoy the star-studded skies and grab a snooze under them

Away from the city lights, the night sky transforms. And that is when Pravin ji brings out his telescope for an amazing session of star gazing. Unfortunately for me, the two days at this Jaipur nature retreat had spells of rain and the clouds refused to move away. That said, the sudden showers too, were magical with the rhythmic tapping on the trees  – all of which I enjoyed with a hot cup of chai in their open dining area.

10. You feel pampered in the large and comfortable rooms at Aranyavas

The Aranyavas rooms are quite like a suite with an outdoor sit-out area, a small seating cum work space inside and a separate bedroom. You could equate it to a studio apartment. Though they have an air conditioner, you will find that you do not need it – thanks to the cool nature around.

The rooms are well equipped with electric kettles and a modern bathroom. A TV is missing but that is by design. And it makes absolute sense – especially if you are looking for a natural rejuvenation.

11. It is a perfect place for family bonding (or a team outing)

Without any distractions, this is a place where people actually talk to each other. You can bond with your kids or friends over a board game (and they have a selection) or have a friendly archery competition with them. And of course, there is always a karaoke evening by the bonfire.

If you are here with your friends or team mates, you might even enjoy a game of volleyball or tennis or even the traditional games like Pittu. At the end of it, all these activities together, away from the usual routine and hustle-bustle of the city end up making memories for life.

12. You can volunteer to make a difference

Aranyavas encourages volunteers to visit, stay and work with them in the farms. Along with helping out on the farm, you also, get to learn about permaculture. Accommodation would be provided on the farm retreat and you are expected to work for around 5 – 6 hours a day. The assignment can be between 7 – 45 days, during which you can also, discover the sights around Jaipur. You can learn more about this by writing to Aranyavas directly through their website.

f you are looking for a break that truly restores your soul, challenges your consumption habits, and reconnects you with the earth, look no further than Aranyavas. What is more is that is that you get to experience a different side of this heritage city of Jaipur. I am sure one of these reasons is compelling enough for you to try at least a day trip here.
