Bara Imambara Lucknow

Built in 1784 by 

Asaf-Ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh

The construction was undertaken to provide employment to the people of Lucknow during a famine 

The workers constructed during the day and the noblemen broke it down at night - all to keep the employment going.

Took over 10 years to complete

Not a single monument but a group of buildings

The Mughal styled design was built using Lakhori bricks made from limestone, rice husks & daal

Renowned as one of the 

World's  Largest Arched Structure

Bhool Bhulaiya 

To make up for the lack of beams, the roofs had different heights and the walls were made hollow, leading to a 3D maze called Bhool Bhulaiya
