Natural Wonders of the Yellowstone National Park

There is always plenty to write when it comes to historical districts and monuments but there is enough and more intrigue that the natural wonders offer as well. This week, let’s take a virtual tour of one of the oldest National parks in USA – Yellowstone national park.  A UNESCO site, this place is a treasure trove of amazing flora and fauna and the place merits a separate and exclusive trip and stay. Located in Wyoming, it spans over 2 million acres and is home to bears, bisons, elks, gray wolves as well as various birds and fish. Owing to the volcanic activity in this region, this park is full of geothermal wonders and forests.

The Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park

This is one of the most popular attractions in this park.  Though it is not the hottest nor the highest, it nonetheless, is the most attractive and popular. It is said to erupt within 45 minutes – 90 minutes. It blows up to a height of 90 feet, sometimes going over 130 feet and generally, lasts for 2 – 5 minutes. The geyser is called Old Faithful as its eruption is fairly regular and can be predicted. There are quite a few benches around the geyser and as you see the crowd filling in, be sure that the geyser is gearing up for a show.

Besides this geyser, there are plenty more of the geothermal wonders that should be seen like the Morning Glory Pool,  Castle geyser,  Grand and Daisy geyser etc.

Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

With a depth ranging from 900 ft – 1200 ft, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone National Park offers various site points from where you can see the gushing waters of Yellowstone river. There are some waterfalls and scenic points from where you can enjoy the swirling waters of the river. Around here, you can also, visit the Hayden Valley, where you can spot wildlife like the Grizzly bears, bisons and elks

Mammoth Hot Springs at Yellowstone National Park

A white landscape caused by a combination of hot water and limestone, this area is quite a sight. Covered with limestone terraces, when one looks at the scenery, it feels as if the springs have been frozen white in time. Around this spot, within a few kilometres, one can also, visit the boiling river and if possible, even take a dip there.

The park has lots and lots to offer – from mountain peaks to volcanic ash to springs and wildlife. There is plenty of entertainment built around the park and one can take a pick from a range, starting with boating, biking, fishing, skiing to hiking and more. Park fees:

Click here to know the various fees involved in the park. The park charges involve a per pax charge, a vehicle charge and activities (if any)  charge that are being used. Children under 15 years are exempt from the fees. There are certain days in the year where the park entrance is free.

Travel Tips:

• Remember to check the weather forecast in the area before planning a trip and hence, pack your gear accordingly. 
•  Please ensure that the rules in the park are strictly followed 
  •  The Wildlife does tend to get a little uncontrollable and hence, maintain fair distance with them.  
  •  Being a natural park, there are plenty of natural hazards – like falling trees, heat that could burn your skin and more. Hence, the boardwalks and site instructions need to be stringently followed. 
• The cell phones work only in certain areas within the park.
